How can I get better marks in class 10? In class 8 and 9, I studied for 1 hour during exams and got 75%.

Next year (within 2 or 3 months) I am going to 10th standard (board exam) and I am very scared. What are some tips and suggestions to score more than 95% in the board exam?

What are some tips for the CBSE Class 10 2020/2021 batch?

These are some of the questions asked by my juniors and almost every day I get such questions on how to prepare for board exams.

First of all, let me tell you that board exams are just overrated, and with a perfect strategy, you can easily ace this exam.

You just need a little bit of hard work and a lot of smart work to get a good score in your board exams.

Here are a few tips that will help you to score well in your boards

1. Have a proper sleep

Many of you might be inspired by this quote, “You will have enough time to sleep once you are dead, go study now”.

But let me tell you should not categorize sleep as an unproductive thing

Without a proper sleep mark my words you won’t be able to concentrate and it will do you more harm than good. At the start, you might think that it’s a good practice but after a few days, you will definitely see the side effects.

2. Exercise regularly

You all might have heard the quote “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.”

Many of the students make an excuse for not working out as a lack of time. But do you realize that a 30-min workout daily is not going to spoil your whole day? Instead, it will make you more energetic and fresh.

And do recollect the proverb which we have been hearing since childhood — “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

3. Proper diet

During this period you have to really take care of your health as you don’t have time to waste being sick.

Have homely cooked food and avoid junk food during this time. And also don't have heavy food as it will make you feel sleepy and dull. You should have salads and fruits regularly to remain healthy and concentrate on your studies. And do follow this tip especially when your exams are near.

4. Learning strategy

From childhood what we do is we simply take a chapter, read it and we feel that we have studied the chapter.

But at some point in time, we all do realize that this is not effective at all.

To learn a chapter thoroughly you have to read it four times. Yes, you read it correctly, I said FOUR times.

Now, that doesn’t mean that you have to read the chapter four times in one go. You have to read it part by part. You can take around one week for this.

And believe me, after this you will be knowing each and every part in that chapter. Now the next task is to make short notes.

5. Make Notes

I have seen many people making notes while reading the chapter for the first time. Let me tell you this will be the worst notes they can ever make as they are making notes without understanding the chapter properly. Instead of making short notes, you will end up making long notes and you will definitely not read those long notes again.

So notes should be made only after understanding the chapter thoroughly. It will help you to add only the important points and the ones you keep on forgetting.

And while making the notes it’s not necessary to include everything. You can also write the subtitle of less important parts to make the notes short.

6. Continuous revision is the key

Many students make the mistake of not revising the chapters after studying it. What happens is after a few days you will forget it and you have to study it from scratch. This is the most foolish mistake you can ever do.

The learning curve will be at its peak only for an hour after you study. To maintain a constant graph you need to revise regularly. Every day keep an hour for revision otherwise your graph will come and touch zero.

And while revising you don't have to read the whole textbook again. Remember the short notes you made, that will come handy now. Try recollecting those points without looking at the paper and after that quickly go through your notes. This is the most effective way for revision.

7. Take breaks

In the case of studies, quality comes above quantity. The no: of hours of your studies actually doesn’t matter. You can simply sit in front of the book without studying anything.

So my advice to you all is to take breaks when you feel exhausted. See some standup shows or some comedy videos to relax your mind. You can also play some games with your family.

8. The Pomodoro Technique

This technique is quite famous among students. This will help you to utilize your study time in an effective manner and help you to concentrate on your studies.

9. Do not follow too many books

For board exams what I have observed is that you can solve any question if you study the textbook properly. According to me textbook, sample papers and previous years’ questions is more than enough to score good grades.

If you want you can have additional reference books but make sure that you do not follow too many books as you won’t be able to complete them and you will feel an unnecessary burden on yourself.

10. Previous Year Questions

Start practicing questions given in the textbook and after that try solving the previous year questions.

Previous year questions are really important as they give you an idea of the pattern of questions and the area from where the questions come. I have seen many times the previous year’s question repeating so do practice it before your exam.

11.Sample Question Paper

Try solving the sample paper 2–3 months before the board exams. This will help you to identify your weaker areas. Do these on alternate days with a fixed time limit and like a proper exam. And try to do this during your exam hours as it will help to set your biological clock.

12. Take your pre-boards seriously

Many students do not take their pre-boards seriously and end up scoring bad marks. See the pre-boards are really important and you should treat it as a board exam. Do not neglect it and instead see it as an opportunity to find out your weak areas and work on them.

13. Do not take unnecessary stress

Believe me, board exams are going to be the easiest exam of your life. Take a chill pill and relax. If you feel discouraged do not hesitate to talk to your parents, teachers, friends, or anyone close to you.

Congratulations, you have managed to read this big post. And if you can do this, you definitely have the patience to work hard and you are going to do extremely well in your board exams.

ALL THE BEST.
